Art Events - Marrickville Open Studio Trail

I recently went on the Marrickville Open Studio Trail (MOST). I am currently experiencing extreme studio envy. There were some lovely places and amazing people.

I was especially impressed by both the work and the space in splinterworkshop. Absolutely gorgeous furniture, with smooth lines and wonderful design.

I also liked Gail Kenning’s work on Pattern as Process. We had a great conversation about patterns and technology.

Re-shooting “Not the Target Demographic”

Not the Target Demographic - Metin

I am thinking of re-shooting the “Not the Target Demographic” series. I love the concept of good men who are slightly outside of the norm. However I think I can do better with the quality of the photography and with conveying the subject. Looks as though I am going to have to put the call out for my guy-friends to come and spend some time at the pub and play chess again.

Additions to Delicate Textures Series

After a long time away from the series, I have been working on two additions to the Delicate Textures series. One is finished, and the other is yet to come.

Both are inspired by some fantastic little stick on mirrors I found in a haberdashery. When stuck to canvas, they have this wonderful sharp, square, blocky appearance. With thick layers of white over the top, they look like the texture of some modern city, with a little grey thrown in for the more smokey, grubby part of the town.

Precious Things

I have about five canvases in progress in this series. All are small objects that I can hold in my hand as I work on them. The idea is to create something tiny, tactile and luminous. I am thinking about having them placed in a specimen case, or having a custom-made display-case done. If I take the display case option, there will be a partition for each of them, and red ribbon running along the bottom to allow them to be lifted out easily.

Tasmania 2007

Tasmani 2007 - Tyre
Series: Tasmania 2007
Description:
A recent trip to Tasmania sparked a series of photographs of a beautiful, still landscape. The cool colours in the landscape echoed the air.

Woodford 2006

Woodford 2006 - Dawn
Series: Festivals and Events
Description:
Every year a bunch of assorted hippies, folkies and general music lovers descend on Woodford in Queensland. For a week they suspend reality, revelling in a realm of light and sound. At dawn on New Year’s day they ascend and watch the sun rise over the horizon. It is amazing to see such a mass of people rest still.
